Signal

Signal exhibition September 2004

Aims of the project:

  • To link with other artists on the Ards and Dumfries and Galloway Peninsulas, and to encourage mutual dialogue and cultural exchange.
  • To promote the visual arts taking place within the Inishowen Peninsula.
  • To establish a series of events (Beacon, Signal and Headland) that increase participation and awareness of the contemporary visual arts.

Description:

An exhibition as part of the Festival of the Peninsula, Inishowen. This project is intended to take place within the Festival but also if the Festival does not take place in 2004. Signal will build on the success of the previous year’s project, Beacon and will also link to ‘Headland’ a large scale exhibition, seminar and publication planned for 2005 based on invited artists and curators which will focus on challenging notions of land and landscape.

Signal is a proposed exhibition of moving image/film that would involve a number of artists selected by Artlink, based in Inishowen, and also an artist from each of the other two Peninsulas. Each of the artists would contribute to a film that would be premiered in Inishowen and accompanied by a live soundtrack of singers and musicians. Beacon involved volunteers from Simply Music in 2003, and we hope to maintain and increase this element of collaboration between the visual arts and music/singing through the plans for Signal in 2004.

The film would be shown on the first night of the Festival and would also travel, with the singers and musicians to the other two Peninsulas for a screening during their Festivals.

As Ards and Dumfries and Galloway planning is underway.
