Masked
Masks provide a platform for young people to express themselves. A drama facilitator will explore different forms of expression through learning the basics of Commedia dell’arte (“Artistic Comedy” – a form of improvisational theatre that began in Italy in the 16th century) while an artist will introduce the theme of masks. Participants will be encouraged to create a character, which can be fictional or based on ones self, by firstly creating the visual aspects of the character before moving on to developing the physicality of the character and expressing that to the audience.
Tag Your Art
Graffiti can be anything from simple scratch marks to elaborate murals. During this programme participants will explore the traditional techniques of graffiti art and the artists that are best known for using these techniques. The group will work on illustration, graffiti typography, stenciling, spray painting and creating their own ‘tag’ to add to their work.
Educate Together
This 6-week programme is focused on learning about the art forms that are traditional to the nationalities within the school / locality. Students will learn about the culture and heritage of different nationalities by using artistic folklore from each country represented within the school as a theme.
Telling Tales
This 6-week programme is focused on creating a story-board, based on fact or fiction, through the use of drawing and technology. The workshop is designed to develop the child’s drawing and computer skills while nurturing their imagination and creativity. Children will create a theme for the story and together they will look at different forms of illustration to help them create their own story-boards. The group will invent their own characters and begin developing their drawings on paper before editing them on the computer to bring the story alive by adding texture and colour using Photoshop.
On Yer Marks!
This 4-week programme is focused on the appreciation of different cultures from around the world through mark and printmaking. A story will be told, which will provide the theme for the rest of the programme. The story will then be broken down into sections and children will be asked to express the story through exploring shapes, colours and patterns and using these patterns to express their emotions.
