New courses for artists and practitioners

Aims of the project:

  • To increase diversity and new skills in the visual arts.
  • To add new artforms to the artlink programme.
  • To increase opportunities for artists, practitioners and those interested in visual arts skills.
  • To raise the profile of the visual arts and encourage increased participation locally and nationally.

Description:

Artlink hopes to promote new courses and activities in the visual arts, primarily aimed at artists, arts facilitators, leaders and those involved with promoting creative activities in their own areas. The proposed artforms are papermaking, hand made books and bookbinding, and raku ceramics.

The course would be offered at a subsidised rate to participants to encourage future attendance, and would be held over separate weekends with invited artists, each an acknowledged expert in the artforms. Participants would be encouraged to develop their own individual ideas within the skill, and to contribute to dialogue and discussion amongst the group.

The course would also introduce new artists to Artlink, which would benefit local adults and children in the future in terms of new course tutors and activities being introduced into the programme. The course and the specialist artists would be advertised nationally and locally, and the results of the activities would be highlighted through the Artlink website and information leaflets.
